The Childcare Center at Hort Woods
As part of one of my art education courses, I spend six weeks volunteering at The Childcare Center at Hort Woods. The Childcare Center at Hort Woods is a preschool on campus with an arts based curriculum. I was placed in the infant-toddler room with students ages 3 months through two years. I spent six weeks working with the students and learning about how their classroom runs. At the end of my time there, I instructed an art making activity based on what I learned about the students interests.
My lesson revolved around the concept of texture. I introduced several different textures to the students and we had a discussion about what words to use to describe the texture. Then, each of the students created a painting using the textures we discussed.
