Fresco Painting

Below is a collection of fresco paintings I created while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. My Art History Minor introduced me to many great Renaissance fresco paintings. My interest in Renaissance art influenced my decision to take the fresco painting class while I was studying abroad. This course helped to further my knowledge of art produced during this era and gain a deeper understanding of how it was made.

Our first assignment was to bring an object to class to paint. I selected a peach.

Here is a recreation of a small piece of Michelangelo's famous Sistine Chapel Ceiling.

After a weekend trip to Cinque Terre, I was inspired to paint a beach scene. This is based off of an image I found online.

After an art history field trip to Pisa, I was decided to paint the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The painting is based on a photograph I took while I was there.

After a weekend trip to the Venice Biennale (a contemporary art show), I wanted to create something modern, similar to the contemporary, abstract work of the show. This painting combines the old, historic style of fresco painting with a new contemporary style of content in the piece.
